Inspiration
Spools of baker’s twine in wonderful colors inspired not only the colors but also the design in this quilt. I wanted to capture the diagonal twists that you see in the spools, and I love how the white showcases the beauty of each of the colors. The design looks complex with the lines of the twine touching each other, but it really isn’t.
NOTE: Whatever colors you choose to use, make a chart and replace my color with yours. This will make it easier to keep track of the colors and placement.

TWINE STRIP SETS
Each twine strip set contains 4 background and 4 solid-color strips in different widths. There is 1 strip set for each of the 7 colors.
•For each strip set, cut 4 strips of one solid color as follows:
Cut 2 strips 1¼˝ × WOF.
Cut 2 strips 1½˝ × WOF.
and
•Cut 4 strips of the background fabric as follows:
Cut 1 strip 2˝ × WOF.
Cut 1 strip 2¼˝ × WOF.
Cut 1 strip 2½˝ × WOF.
Cut 1 strip 2¾˝ × WOF.
BACKGROUND
When cutting the background strips, start with the widest strips first, as listed. Strips longer than your width of fabric will need to be pieced to achieve the needed length.
Be sure to label each piece with its letter as you cut it—the letters are for the assembly process.
•Cut:
L: 12½˝ × 68½˝
J: 11½˝ × 58½˝
I: 11½˝ × 45½˝
K: 10½˝ × 58½˝
H: 7½˝ × 45½˝
F: 7½˝ × 34½˝
D: 6½˝ × 31½˝
G: 4½˝ × 43½˝
E: 3½˝ × 36½˝
B: 3½˝ × 26½˝
A: 3½˝ × 23½˝
C: 2½˝ × 29½˝
Several of the twine units have a background fabric extension on the end. These are indicated in yellow on the quilt assembly diagram.
•For these extensions, cut:
2 strips 1½˝ × WOF; subcut 1 strip 36½˝, 1 strip 10½˝, 1 strip 8½˝, 4 strips 6½˝, and 1 strip 5½˝
1 strip 2½˝ × 10½˝
BACKING AND BINDING
•Cut 8 strips 2½˝ × WOF for the binding. Stitch together the strips into 1 long strip. Press and set it aside.
•Cut the remaining backing fabric in half and seam it together. Trim the rectangle to 74˝ × 78˝.
Completing the Diagonal Strips
Seam allowances are ¼˝ unless otherwise noted.
1. Arrange each set of background strips, alternating with a set of solid-color strips. Sew together the strips along the long edges. Press the seams to the solid color if the seam shows through the background; otherwise, press them all in one direction. Each strip set will be 11½˝ wide × 40˝ or the width of your fabric.
